The
Acting President of the Pan African Parliament (PAP), Hon. Bouras DJAMEL has congratulated H.E Félix TSHISEKEDI,
President of the Democratic Republic of Congo, as he takes over the helm of the
African Union to serve as the chairman for 2021.
Hon. Bouras DJAMEL says that African
Parliamentarians have absolute confidence that there will be myriad
achievements under the new leadership as the Union prepares to engage on the
theme for 2021: "Arts, Culture and Heritage: Levers for Building the
Africa We Want.”
“President
Tshisekedi assumes the chairmanship at a very challenging time for the
continent. Many African countries are battling damaging second waves of the
COVID-19 pandemic while straining to procure sufficient vaccine doses. We are
optimistic about the incoming Chairperson’s resolve to lead Africa’s response
to this pandemic and how our economies can overcome the damage. The PAP stands
ready to provide support throughout the chairmanship,” says Hon. Djamel.
The
Pan-African Parliament has also commended H.E Cyril RAMAPHOSA, President of the
Republic of South Africa for excellently steering the Union in the midst of a
global health crisis.
