The
Pan-African Parliament (PAP), through its Bureau, has congratulated Mr. Moussa
Faki Mahamat on his re-election as the African Union Commission Chairperson for
another four-year term.
He
was elected at the just concluded Summit of the Assembly of Heads of State and
Government of the African Union (AU). He is from the Republic of Chad.
PAP
described the extension of his mandate as a vote of confidence in his
leadership to steer our Union ahead.
“The
Pan-African Parliament rejoices at his re-election and calls on him to continue
leading the implementation of Institutional Reforms of the Union while
improving the efficacy of programme implementation”.
The
PAP Bureau has also expressed warm congratulations to Dr. Monique Nsanzabaganwa
from Rwanda, who was elected Deputy Chairperson of the AU Commission. She is
the first women to occupy this position.
The
PAP Bureau notes that this is a strong signal for the AU’s commitment to women
empowerment and gender equality and balance at the continental level.
The Pan-African Parliament looks forward to working with the Chair and his Deputy as well as the new team of Commissioners in building the Africa We Want.
