| Nyesom Wike |
The Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike admitted that he had a
candidate he was “openly supporting,” ahead of last weekend’s Peoples
Democratic Party, PDP’s presidential primary election.
The Governor, however, said that the winner of the election, former
Vice President, Atiku Abubakar will emerge victorious in next year’s
presidential election.
Atiku emerged the presidential candidate of the PDP in Port Harcourt,
the Rivers State capital after seeing off Sokoto State Governor, Aminu
Tambuwal; Senate President, Bukola Saraki; former Senate President,
David Mark; Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso and others.
Wike had backed Tambuwal against Atiku and others in the primary
election, but in a tweet on Tuesday, the Governor said he has accepted
the outcome of the election.
He further pledged his support for Atiku, stating that he will stop at nothing to ensure the party emerged victorious in 2019.
He tweeted, “In the buildup, I had a candidate and I supported my
candidate openly, that doesn’t translate to not accepting the outcome
which was sincerely in favour of Alhaji Atiku.
“We will stop at nothing in the support of HE @atiku to make sure the party comes out victorious in 2019.”
