The Government of South Africa, as the host of the seat
of the Pan African Parliament (PAP)
has confirmed its long standing commitment to host PAP Sessions including the proposed Resumed Election Session which
is scheduled to take place from Saturday November 13, 2021 to Saturday November
27, 2021.
This was contained in a letter dated September 15, 2021
referenced 18/1/5/PAP/PARL, signed
by the South African Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Dr. GNM Pandor and addressed to Mr. Vipya Harawa, Clerk of the Pan African Parliament.
The letter stated that “following the adjustment to the
risk level measures in South Africa with respect to the Covid-19 pandemic,
South Africa is in a position to host the resumed session of the Pan African Parliament”.
Accordingly, a meeting has been scheduled between the
Clerk of the PAP, Mr. Harawa and
officials of the Department of International Relations and Cooperation on
Monday September 20, 2021 to finalize preparations for the session.
It would be recalled that there had been concerns as to
whether the risk level measures in South African with respect to the Covid-19 pandemic
would allow a gathering of more than 50 persons, prompting Mr. Harawa to invite countries willing to host the session to so
indicate. The Republic of Congo indicated willingness to host which now appears
to have been overtaken by events with the confirmation of South Africa’s
readiness to host the session.
