Fifteen States will benefit from the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) funding for education.

The fund is part of measures to cushion the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in the sector.

This was disclosed by the Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, when he briefed State House correspondents after Thursday’s virtual NEC meeting.

The States are: Abia, Anambra, Akwa Ibom, Benue, Ebonyi, Jigawa, Kaduna, Katsina, Kebbi, Kano, Nassarawa, Niger, Plateau, Sokoto and Zamfara.

The affected states met two of the three criteria set to access the GPE funding which  is a grant from the World Bank and other donors.

El-Rufai disclosed that the Federal Ministry of Education presented to NEC, how the education of Nigerian students in the COVID-19 era could continue, assuring that the federal and state governments were working towards ensuring a safe opening up of the educational system.
