The Senate on Wednesday called on the Nigeria Police Force, NPF, and
the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, to reinstate the
withdrawn security details of Senator representing Kogi West, Dino
Melaye
Presiding over plenary, the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu
said Melaye’s security details be reinstated because the lawmaker’s life
was in danger.
Melaye, who is currently involved in a face-off with the police had his security details withdrawn.
Addressing his colleagues, the Kogi West lawmaker said efforts by him
to get security details from the police and other security agencies had
failed.
Following his claim, Ekweremadu described the issue as that of “personal safety” which was “critical.”
Consequently, the deputy Senate President put Melaye’s prayer to a voice vote.
“He said his security was withdrawn and his life is under threat. It is not something we will gloss over,” Ekweremadu stated.
