The Pan-African Parliament (PAP) has
officially announced the Fourth Ordinary Session of the Sixth Legislature,
which will take place from 28th October to 17th November 2024, in Midrand,
Republic of South Africa. This session will be held under the 2024 African
Union theme:"Educating an Africa Fit for the 21st Century: Building
Resilient Education Systems for Increased Success in Inclusive, Quality, and
Relevant Lifelong Learning in Africa."
This gathering will feature a wide
array of activities, including pre-session workshops, the Ordinary Session
itself, and post-session planning meetings. Below is an overview of key events:
A. Pre-Session Preparatory Meetings
(28th October – 3rd November 2024)
Prior to the formal opening of the
Fourth Ordinary Session, several pre-session workshops and meetings will
be held. These are essential for ensuring that Members of the Pan-African
Parliament (PAP) are prepared for the discussions and deliberations that will
follow during the official session. The pre-session activities are scheduled as

Strategic Planning Workshop
A key event in the pre-session
period is the Strategic Planning Workshop, taking place from 1st to
2nd November 2024. This workshop is open to all Members of the
Pan-African Parliament and aims to develop a five-year Strategic Plan
for the PAP. This initiative is crucial for setting the Parliament’s direction
and priorities over the next five years.
Note: All members attending pre-session meetings are required to
arrive in Johannesburg at least a day before their respective meetings.
B. Fourth Ordinary Session of the
Pan-African Parliament (4th – 15th November 2024)
The Fourth Ordinary Session
of the Pan-African Parliament will run from 4th to 15th November 2024.
The Opening Ceremony will take place on 4th November, and the
session will conclude with a Closing Ceremony on 15th November 2024.
Key Highlights:
- Swearing-in of New Members: New members from countries that have held elections
during the inter-session period will be sworn in during the Opening
Ceremony on 4th November 2024. An Orientation Workshop for
these members will be held on 3rd November 2024.
- Representation Requirements: As per Article 4(2) and 4(3) of the Protocol
to the Treaty Establishing the African Economic Community Relating to the
Pan-African Parliament, each member state is required to send five
representatives to the PAP, one of whom must be a woman. This
representation must reflect the diversity of political opinions within the
member state’s parliament or legislative body.
All parliaments are requested to
submit the CVs, three passport-size photographs, and an appointment
letter for the designated members signed by the relevant authorities by 17th
October 2024. A nomination form for new members is attached to this notice.
C. Post-Session Meetings (16th –
17th November 2024)
Following the close of the Ordinary
Session, a Joint Planning Meeting will be held from 16th to 17th
November 2024. The purpose of this meeting is to jointly develop an Annual
Work Plan for 2025 for the Pan-African Parliament.
This meeting is for:
- Members of the PAP Bureau
- Bureauxes of Committees and Caucuses

of the Sixth Legislature of the Pan-African Parliament is a significant event
