Palestinian Ambassador pays courtesy call on the Acting President of PAP

Hon. Bouras DJAMELActing President of the Pan-African Parliament (PAP) received H.E Hanan JARAR, Ambassador of the State of Palestine to South Africa. The meeting took place at the Parliament’s Headquarters in Midrand and discussions revolved around areas of collaboration between the PAP and the State of Palestine, through the youth and women caucuses, on matters of common interest.

Amb. Jarar also carried a message of appreciation, from the people of Palestine, to the African Union (AU) for its solidarity for the Palestinian cause, and particularly the AU’s call to its members to preserve the legal status of East Jerusalem as the capital of the future Palestinian state, and refrain from any actions that undermine the legal status of the city, particularly moving embassies to Jerusalem.

The call was made at the occasion of the 34th African Union Summit which convened virtually.

H.E Jarar underscored that the AU Assembly’s position reflects the deeply-rooted bonds between Africa’s anti-colonial struggles and that of the Palestinian people, and the deep-seated historic solidarity between the peoples of Africa and Palestine.

Hon. Djamel also recalled that in 2017, in what was described as a step in the right direction for the recognition of Palestine’s self-determination, the PAP granted the territory an observer status. The PAP also endorsed a motion to support the Palestinian prisoners on hunger strike, who were detained in the Israeli prisons.
