A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, Emeka Ihedioha has
expressed confidence that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar will win
the presidential election in 2019.
Ihedioha who emerged as Imo State Governorship Candidate of the party won the contest with a total of 1,723 votes to defeat the Senator
representing Imo East senatorial zone, Samuel Anyanwu, who came 2nd with
a total of 1,282 votes.
In a statement on
Tuesday, signed by his spokesman, Chibuike Onyeukwu, Ihedioha described Atiku as
a “catalyst for Nigeria’s progress”.
He said: “Alhaji Atiku Abubakar is a leader who understands Nigeria
very well and no doubt has what it takes to tackle the numerous
challenges bedeviling our country.
“He is a founding father of our great party, whose trajectory has
enriched our democracy. He is a statesman, who is humane and has
excelled in all human endeavours.
“I am confident that he will reunite our sorely fragmented nation for the collective wellbeing of all Nigerians.
“I urge all Nigerians to rally round him and the Peoples Democratic
Party to provide the much needed leadership towards realizing the
Nigerian Project,” the statement added.
