Yakubu Dogara |
Chief Whip of the House of Representatives and leader of the North-West
caucus in the lower chamber, Mr. Alhassan Ado-Doguwa, has stated that it
would be in the interest of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC,
to have the Speaker, Yakubu Dogara in its folds.
He said this against the backdrop of speculations making the rounds in some quarters that Dogara may soon jump ship to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Thereafter, he appealed to the national leadership of the APC under
Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, to intervene in the Speaker’s issues with the
Bauchi Sate governor, Mohammed Abubakar, saying the party cannot afford
to miss Dogara from its family.
Ado – Doguwa, who is a ranking APC member from Kano State, told
Punch: “I am also authoritatively aware that up till today, Dogara is a
faithful member of the APC, and still ready for further negotiations on
the perceived bitter relationship with his state governor.
“I, therefore, urge the national leadership of our great party to
dispassionately intervene on the Speaker’s issue in Bauchi State and
bring it to a logical conclusion.
“It is my candid opinion that we cannot afford to miss the Speaker from the APC family.”
Meanwhile, the National Chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole, has
expressed confidence in Dogara, in spite of recent defections in the
National Assembly.
Oshiomhole said he was confident that Dogara would not dump the ruling party.
