The protracted crisis rocking the Imo State Chapter of the All Progressives
Congress, APC, has caused a group of aggrieved members of the party, under the
aegis Good Governance Forum (GGF), to begin consultations with the
state leadership of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in a bid to
formerly decamp to the party.
This was disclosed in a statement by the publicity secretary of SDP
in Imo state, Godsent Chilos, on
Friday.
The statement quoted leaders of the group as saying that, with the
events unfolding in Imo APC, it will be very difficult for the party to
win elections in Imo State come 2019.
The statement also reported the leaders of the aggrieved APC group as
saying that their membership cuts across the 27 LGAs and the 305 wards
in Imo State.
Chilos quoted them as saying, “Our attraction to SDP is as a result
of the grass root strength of SDP and its commitment to restructuring of
Nigeria and operation of Open Government when elected to power,
adherence to the principles of internal democracy, harmonious
co-existence and respect to the democratic rights of members.
“We think that SDP is the only Party in Imo State that has brighter
chances of winning the Governorship of Imo State including majority in
the State House of Assembly in 2019, because APC and PDP has failed
imolites.
“We shall formerly announce their defection to SDP before the end of August 2018 in Owerri”.
