The Minister of
Science, Technology, Environment and Innovation of Ghana, Prof. Kwabena
Frimpong Boateng, recently warned palm wine consumers of potential
health risks because most people who produce this wine use pesticides to treat the drink.
He explained that the effect could be terrible if the threat
was not immediately verified and could lead to all kinds of cancers in
the near future
The teacher. Frimpong Boateng made this statement at the 3rd National Policy Summit in Kumasi last Tuesday.
He argues that the use of pesticides in the production of palm
wine can not be deliberate, but could be an act of ignorance that
requires immediate awareness of its ramifications.
The minister, who is a cardiac surgeon, said the use of pesticides in food preservation was commonplace and called for national awareness.
