“How can I leave a banana plantation that I planted & that begins to bear fruit?: Uganda’s Museveni

Yoweri Museveni
The possibility of running for a sixth term was granted to the Ugandan President. On July 26, Ugandan justice validated the constitutional reform that removes the presidential age limit, reports AFP.

For example, President Yoweri Museveni, who has been in power since 1986 and is 73 years old, will be able to run for the 2021 ballot. To the dismay of the opposition, the majority of constitutional judges voted in favor of the repeal of the law setting the age limit at 75 years.

As a reminder, Yoweri Museveni had promulgated last January, the law removing the age limit of 75 years to be a candidate for the presidency.
Although the opposition condemned maneuvers for ”a presidency for life “, President Museveni, who initially was against those heads of state who drag on to power, believes he has not yet reaped the fruits he sowed.

“How can I leave a banana plantation that I planted and that begins to bear fruit? Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni wondered soon after enacting the law.

The Ugandan president, with this judicial probation, would have achieved his goal of running for a sixth or even a seventh term. Like his peers in Equatorial Guinea, Cameroon, Sudan and Chad, he is one of the heads of state who have been seated in the presidential chair .
