The
member representing Mbaitoli State Constituency in the Imo State House of
Assembly, Rt. Hon. Okey Onyekanma,
was on Sunday, December 19, honoured as the 'Most Outstanding Lawmaker of the
9th Assembly Award', for providing quality and effective representation to his
people through outreaches, projects and interventions.
Rt. Hon. Onyekanma who is the immediate
past Deputy Speaker was presented with the award by the Association of Mbaitoli
Journalists, during it's end of the year get-together, award and manifesto

Mbaike and Owerri zone, at the Villa Sur Rive Hotel, Owerri, Imo state.
Speaking
during the presentation of the award, Mr.
Reuben Nwankwo of the Watchdog Newspaper, said that Onyekanma remains the most outstanding lawmaker of the 9th
Assembly, an assertion justified by his commitment and focus to the development
of his constituency, despite his suspension that has lasted for more that one
calendar year.
In
his acceptance speech, Onyekanma
dedicated the award to the good people of Mbaitoli State Constituency, for
giving him the opportunity and mandate to serve.
"I
thank the members of the Association of Mbaitoli Journalists for deeming me
worthy of this great award. It has been an honour and privilege to speak and
stand for Mbaitoli constituency. This is why I am passionate and dogged about
improving the quality of lives of our people”.
“In
three and half years without constituency allowance, I have procured and
installed transformers in several communities in Mbaitoli, restored electricity
to villages that have been without light for a long time”.
“I
have built houses for homeless widows, drilled boreholes in some communities,
given petty traders in Mbaitoli markets a stimulus relief package to scale up
their businesses, empowered women and youths, and paid school fees for hundreds
of indigent students”.
“While
I view this award as a call to do more, I dedicate it to the people of Mbaitoli
for giving him the opportunity and mandate to serve," said the former
Deputy Speaker.
Recall
that Onyekanma recently received the
Prestigious Papyrus Magazine Award as the best lawmaker in Imo State House of
Assembly on Effective Representation.
These
awards and recognition for quality and effective representation have continued
to come in quick succession despite his travail that has lasted for 13 months.
