The Third Vice
President of the Pan African Parliament (PAP), Hon. Bouras DJAMAL has been announced as the Acting President of
that continental legislative body.
This was contained
in a letter to the African national parliaments dated August 6 signed by the
Clerk of the Parliament, Mr. Vipya
Harawa and made available to African
Parliamentary News.
According to the
letter, Bouras “has assumed the
position since April 2020 in line with Article 12(4) of the Protocol to the
Treaty Establishing the African Economic Community relating to the PAP; and
Article 18(2) and Article 19(1) of the PAP Rules of Procedure”.
“Hon. Djamal stands in as Acting
President until the next Plenary Session of the PAP when the full Bureau is
expected to be reconstituted”.
African Parliamentary News recalls that Hon. Bouras Djamal, a parliamentarian
from Algeria (North Africa) was on May 10, 2018 at the Sixth Ordinary Session
of the Fourth Parliament elected as the Third Vice President of the Pan African Parliament.
His elevation as Acting President was as a result of the
vacancies in the offices of President and of the First and Second
Vice-Presidents of PAP due to the expiration of their parliamentary tenures at
their respective national parliaments.
