The Third Vice President of the Pan African Parliament (PAP), Hon. Bouras DJAMAL has been announced as the Acting President of that continental legislative body.

This was contained in a letter to the African national parliaments dated August 6 signed by the Clerk of the Parliament, Mr. Vipya Harawa and made available to African Parliamentary News.

According to the letter, Bouras “has assumed the position since April 2020 in line with Article 12(4) of the Protocol to the Treaty Establishing the African Economic Community relating to the PAP; and Article 18(2) and Article 19(1) of the PAP Rules of Procedure”.

Hon. Djamal stands in as Acting President until the next Plenary Session of the PAP when the full Bureau is expected to be reconstituted”.

African Parliamentary News recalls that Hon. Bouras Djamal, a parliamentarian from Algeria (North Africa) was on May 10, 2018 at the Sixth Ordinary Session of the Fourth Parliament elected as the Third Vice President of the Pan African Parliament.

His elevation as Acting President was as a result of the vacancies in the offices of President and of the First and Second Vice-Presidents of PAP due to the expiration of their parliamentary tenures at their respective national parliaments.
