Former
Acting Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Joy
Nunieh, has alleged that the headquarters of the agency is unconnected to
public power supply.
Nunieh
alleged that this was because the “girlfriend” of the Niger Delta Minister,
Godswill Akpabio, allegedly supplies the diesel for generators.
Nunieh
spoke on an Arise TV programme anchored by Reuben Abati.
She
said: “Akpabio’s girlfriend supplies diesel at the NDDC. I looked at the diesel
situation and said why don’t we give the young Niger Delta boys to supply? Why
can’t we divide it into nine states for them to supply? NDDC in the past paid
for us to get light directly.
Nunieh
lamented that though millions of Naira was paid to get light to NDDC, it was
not connected to the main building.
Nunieh
recalled that after her appointment, she insisted that monies spent on diesel
be cut down.
“How
do I tell Mr. President that I came to do forensic audit and I come in here to
commit the same offence? I will not do it. We looked at the system. How much it
will cost to connect the light?
“To
cut the long story short, I approved. We got the engineers to repair that
thing. Do you know that they refused to pay the money for us to connect that
light into the office so that we can keep buying that diesel?”
Nunieh
and Akpabio are engaged in allegations and counter allegations over financial
infractions in the NDDC.
