The
Republic of Cuba has expressed its desire to take observer status in the
Pan-African Parliament in view of its consistent support to Africa and its
distinct interest in the strengthening of African governance.
This
was disclosed by Cuba’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E Mrs. Anayansi Rodriguez CAMEJO .during
a courtesy call by the President of the Pan African Parliament, Rt. Hon. Roger Nkodo DANG on the last
day of the official visit to Cuba.
According
to the Deputy Minister, a closer relationship with the continental Parliament
was complementary to the existing ties with Africa, noting that Cuba already
enjoys Observer Status in the African Union.
She
says Cuba is ready to share its know-how with the continent in the fields of
health and agriculture, to ensure its contribution is far more significant in
the socio-economic development of the continent.

President Nkodo Dang acknowledged
and commended Cuba for its advancement and excellence in research, medical
training and services.
He
emphasized on the need for enhanced parliamentary diplomacy and cooperation
between PAP and Cuba saying "Parliamentary cooperation could have a number
of developmental spin-offs for our communities in a number of areas."
The
two leaders had an exchange on the idea of proposing installation of an
Honorary Consul in Central Africa to explore and pave way for the facilitation
of the proposed collaborative efforts.
