South Africa’s
opposition EFF leader Hon. Julius Malema
was among the forty five (45) African parliamentarians who were sworn as
members of the Pan African Parliament (PAP) at the opening of the Third Ordinary
Session of the Fifth Parliament of the Pan African Parliament at the parliament’s
seat in Midrand, South Africa on Monday.
Malema who was first sworn in as a PAP
parliamentarian in May 2018, had to be sworn in again following his re-election
into the South Africa’s Parliament in Maythis year and subsequent
re-appointment into PAP.
This is because under
PAP’s Rules of Procedure, a member standing for re-election in his or her home
country following dissolution of parliament ceases to be a member of PAP and will
have to be sworn in again if re-elected at home and re-appointed to PAP.
Other country
delegations who were also sworn in today included Benin (5 members); democratic
Republic of Congo (5 members); Madagascar (5 members); Malawi (5 members);
Nigeria (4 members, one habitual absentee) and South Africa (5 members).
