Ahead of the 2019 general elections, the Independent National Electoral
Commission (INEC) says it has detected and removed the names of 1,931
dead persons from the voters’ register in Kaduna State.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, Abdurahim
Kasugama, said this on Tuesday when he received the Senate Committee on
INEC in his office.
He said the names were uncovered during the recent display of voters’ register for claims and objections.
Kasugama also announced that there were no claims of names of
foreigners in the voters’ register, except for few cases of irregular
images that were discovered and removed.
“Our recently concluded program has been very successful. During the
display, we got claims and objections. To the best of what has come from
the 23 local government, there’s been no claim of any non-Nigerian from
Kaduna State.
“Those who died during the exercise were claimed to be 1,931 names
which were removed. We also identified 12 people with still pictures.
These are people who instead of their images put images of objects,” he
said.
Corrections were also made in the names and ages of people who lodged complaints concerning their registration.
