Alleged N29m bribe: Nigerians react as Presidency ‘defends’ corruption allegation against Buhari’s CoS, Abba Kyari

Abba Kyari,
Nigerians have reacted to a statement by the Presidency, which faulted the allegation that President Muhammadu Buhari’s Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari, allegedly collected a N29 million bribe before awarding a contract.

Garba Shehu, presidential spokesman in a statement on Saturday had described the allegations against Kyari as fictitious, claiming that some politicians were trying to taint image of the Buhari-led administration.

According to him, “Checking the appropriation for 2016 and 2017, that request is not even there. How could Abba Kyari have asked for money to award a contract that did not exist anywhere at all?

In addition to that, the amount allegedly given in bribe was also suspicious, as the office of the presidential aide had been known in the past to receive imprest of 200 million naira and above every month, with no one expected to give account.

“It was only since Abba Kyari occupied that position that things changed.”

However, many Nigerians on the social media community strongly frowned at the statement credited to Shehu, urging the federal government to leave the case to the EFCC to investigate.

Here are some Comments;

@Alhada69 “To me, Mallam Garba Shehu, you are trying to use the office of Mr President to defend Abba Kyari, which is unfair. His issues are becoming too many, so he has to come out clean, his closer to the Mr President should be set aside, enough is a enough.”

@Princemeek19 “Garba Shehu should stop defending Abba Kyari, if he has a case to answer, let him face it. We can’t be saying we are different and do normal things.”

@Kabirmatazu “Mallam Shehu your government is continuously losing integrity, and when did you become the spokesman of EFCC? Please my brother allow the EFCC to do their job and unravel the whole truth on this matter.”

@Futureking “where are those misplaced priority youths that contributed their one month salary of N45k to buy buhari ticket? if Abba kyari can earn this for a month, imagine how much Buhari you bought ticket for will earn. I wonder how much even this Garbage Shehu’ll earn too.”

@Diisaacsilver “For the fact that he rejected N200 million to his office is not ground to disregard the fraud allegations. What DSS and the EFCC did to the complainant is what @GarShehu is currently doing again now. Allow Abba kyari to defend himself. Stop kidding Nigerians.”

@Godofelix “And you are proud telling us he uses 200 million monthly and can not account for anybody. That is corruption.”

@Geotaha “Sir its not your job to exonerate Abba Kyari, what is the position of the EFCC? Allow them do their job! Fighting corruption should not be selective! Buhari take note sir.”

@Abdulwahab “Just watched the Abba Kyari video, the presidency even have the guts to defend him, I’m really disappointed in this Government.”

@Acharmomodu “Let the Presidency carry out an independent investigation devoid of sentiment. Not rushing to the press and social media defending Abba Kyari. Those who accused Abba Kyari are alive, so also is Abba Kyari.”
