Hon. Onofiok Luke |
The Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Onofiok Luke,
has denied speculations of him and other members dumping the Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress, APC.
He said speculations in Akwa Ibom that he and other high profile
politicians in the State would likely resign from the PDP because of the
Senate Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio’s defection to the ruling All
Progressives Congress (APC) was false.
Luke, once served as personal assistant to Mr Akpabio when the latter was the governor of Akwa Ibom State.
“I am a full-blooded member of the PDP. I am a principled person, and I like being known for consistency.
“I started politics in PDP and I will continue to stay with the party,” Luke told PremiumTimes on Sunday.
The speaker’s absence at the emergency meeting of PDP leaders
convened in Uyo by Governor Udom Emmanuel fueled the speculations that
he was leaving the PDP.
Meanwhile, Akpabio, who won his seat in the Senate on the platform of
the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), is believed to be set to decamp to
the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The lawmaker’s meeting with Buhari comes after the Special Assistant
on Prosecution to the president, Okoi Obono-Obla stated that Akpabio will be received into APC on Thursday, by Acting President Yemi Osinbajo and other top leaders of the party at a rally in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State.
