Ikedi Ohakim |
A former Governor of Imo State, Ikedi Ohakim has defected to the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, to contest for the governorship seat in the state in the 2019 general elections.
Ohakim made the declaration on Friday addressing a crowd of APGA supporters at the Kanu Nwankwo Sports Complex
in Owerri the Imo State capital.
He stated that he handed over N26.6bn to Rochas Okorocha in 2011. "If I am
re-elected in 2019 , I will use all democratic means to make sure that
Imo fund is recovered. I will retrieve Imo Eastern Palm University and
make it the Orlu campus of the Imo State University ".
“Okorocha
has turned Imo to a monarchical place where a father -in -law wants to
handover to his son-in-law. I know what was where in Government House in 2011. I have the experience to repair Imo".
"Today, I elect to accept the numerous invitations and requests from our people based on rational calculations, that my return to the leadership of our State would in no small way, settle the confusions and disagreements that has become our leadership conundrum. "
"I have doubtlessly the information, knowledge, records and experiences to track the problems of our State in the least seven years of famine and wastage as they affect our public service, our various institutions and public infrastructure, our markets, our environment, our workers, our pensioners, our teachers, our artisans, , our traders, our local contractors, our keke operators, our unemployed youths and our economy in general" he said.
He pledged to review the issue of land and other public assets that were forcefully acquired and promised to return Ekeukwu Market demolished by Governor Okorocha irrespective of what may have erected there.

Ohakim stated that Nigeria must restructure in order to move the
country forward , adding that APGA was the identity of Ndigbo.
Continuing, he stated that his “wealth of experience as a former governor of the
state is what is needed at this time to salvage Imo State from the
shackles of the ruling All Progressives Congress.”
He maintained that APGA remained the only credible and honest party that could help him achieve his dream and then called on Imo indigenes home and abroad to support his course
as he can only run for just one term under the 1999 Constitution and afterwards handover to a
credible man from Owerri senatorial district.
