The Senator representing Abia South Senatorial district, Enyinnaya
Abaribe has revealed that the former governor of Benue State, Gabriel Suswam
was the first person who welcomed him when the Department of State Services,
DSS, detained him.
Speaking on order 42 of
Senate rules on Wednesday, he explained that the immediate past governor of
Benue was yet to be told of the reasons for his detention, despite being
arrested before him.
Abaribe said he was accused
of aiding and sponsoring the proscribed IPOB, adding that having been arrested
at the gate of an Abuja hotel, his house was searched for 6 hours without any
incriminating evidence.
The lawmaker, who is on
administrative bail, said, “By Friday 22nd June, 2018, I was arrested at the
gates of Hilton Hotel and was taken to my house for a search. which lasted for
6 hours.”
“I want to let the chamber know that I have been accused of aiding and
sponsoring the proscribed IPOB.
“I
met the former Governor of Benue state, Hon. Gabriel Susan who was the first to
welcome me from freedom to detention.”
