The
Pan-African Parliament (PAP) Women’s Caucus is set to host a Conference for
Women in October on women’s rights thereby affording women from across the
continent a platform to review women’s issues.
The
Women’s Caucus meeting took place at the sitting on the PAP Committees. The
Committees were sitting under the African Union 2022 theme ‘Building resilience
in nutrition on the African continent: Accelerate the human capital, social and
economic development.
The
Women’s Caucus meeting also comes at a time when the PAP is working towards
reviving, renewing, repositioning and reinvigorating the continental
Parliament.
The
Pan African Conference on Women’s Rights will focus on women empowerment and
inclusion in governance. Chairperson of the Women’s Caucus, Hon Amina Tidjani Yaya said women play
a significant role in many aspects of the African continent hence the
Conference for Women will afford them an opportunity to acquire knowledge of
measures to promote women's economic empowerment.
“We
are looking forward to having this special time dedicated to women and we are
committed to seeing this Conference being a success and coming up with a
tangible roadmap. The platform will afford us a chance to interrogate
initiatives for economic empowerment and also discuss how we can have to
gender-sensitive budgets even in our national parliaments,” said Hon Amina Tidjani Yaya.
The
Conference will build the capacities of the women for an in-depth understanding
of the recent continental and international commitment of AU Member States to
address the empowerment of women. Issues to do with fighting poverty,
governance and legal protection will also be discussed at the Conference. Tools
on mentoring the youth, men and women, to be champions of gender equality and
