Hon. Onyekanma provides funding for women in Mbaitoli Communities

The member representing Mbaitoli state constituency at the Imo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Okey Onyekanma, has donated the sum of three million six hundred thousand Naira (N3.6 million) as micro grant to women in twelve communities in Mbaitoli local government area of Imo state.

Onyekanma made the donations during year 2020 - 2021 August meetings in different communities in Mbaitoli local council area.

Speaking during the occasion of August meeting of Afara Women Development Union, Onyekanma said that the gesture was to support petty traders and boost their capacities, especially this period of economic downturn.

"The money is strictly for petty traders. It has been my plan to support them. We know that when you empower women, you have empowered an entire society.

"This is my commitment to supporting hardworking petty traders who have no financial capacity to grow their businesses," the lawmaker explained.

While Amaocha Afara, Obazu, Alaenyi Ogwa, Isi Orodo, Obi Mbieri, Achi Mbieri, Amawuihe, Isi Ogwa women organizations received the sum of three hundred thousand naira from Onyekanma in the past, Amaike Mbieri, Idume Ogwa and Afara women associations received theirs last week.

Onyekanma insisted that he would extend the gesture to other communities in Mbaitoli, in the coming years.
