The international health crisis
caused by COVID-19 is extraordinarily overwhelming. African countries, as the
whole world have mobilized to face and win this unprecedented health war as a
collective.
Pan-African parliamentarians join
the leaders of our continent in this tireless fight against this devastating
pandemic for our societies. The Pan-African Parliament (PAP) wishes to note and
to welcome the virtuous measures taken by several African heads of state to
join forces to build a common pool of financial and human resources to respond
to COVID-19.
The PAP wishes to welcome the
initiative of the Chair of the African Union, H.E CYRIL RAMAPHOSA,
President of the Republic of South Africa for the appointment of four special
envoys to lead the mobilization of international support for the continent's
efforts.
The PAP also wishes to salute His
Majesty King MOHAMED VI of Morocco for his willingness to share knowledge
and technology with the rest of the continent for the much-required
manufacturing of equipment which are crucial
in the treatment of COVID-19 patients.
The PAP has taken note, welcomes and
supports the call for a coordinated multilateral response for Africa by the 18
heads of state and government as well as international institutions who were
joined by the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E Moussa Faki
MAHAMAT.
In the same manner, the PAP wishes
to acknowledge all efforts by respective leaders in the 55 member-states of the
African Union. All these actions will undoubtedly allow our continent to share
experiences and good practices which will facilitate a unified health, economic
and social impact.
Pan-African Parliament in turn
commits to putting in place all necessary means to ensure implementation of
continental leadership initiatives at national level, and calls on all
Pan-African Parliamentarians to make necessary efforts in their states to allow
our continent to overcome current challenges and pursue the path of development
of which Africans can take full ownership.
Pan-African Parliament strongly
believes that solutions that are inclusive of all African countries will help
the continent to definitively overcome this pandemic.
