PAP congratulates Ramaphosa on assumption of AU Chairmanship

The Pan African Parliament (PAP) has congratulated South African President H.E Cyril RAMAPHOSA as he assumes office as Chairperson of the African Union (AU) as the host country of the Union’s Legislative organ since 2006.
A release by PAP’s Media Officer Jeffrey ONGANGA, PAP President, Rt. Hon. Roger Nkodo DANG described the development as coming “at an opportune time for our Union and pledged PAP’s support throughout the chairmanship and expressing absolute confidence that there will be myriad achievements.
“The election of South Africa as the incoming Chair in February 2019, raised our hopes as direct beneficiaries of the Host Agreement between the African Union and the Government of South Africa. The optimism of the continental Parliament stems from President Ramaphosa’s recent pronouncement of his approach; which will focus on building a ‘politically stable Africa, empowerment of women and an economically growing continent’ says President Nkodo DANG.
“The President of PAP says the continent continues to draw inspiration from South Africa’s institutions of governance and a functional parliamentary democracy. The PAP will harness this opportunity as it endeavours to establish itself into a prime institution of governance on the African continent”.
The Pan-African Parliament also commended H.E Abdel Fattah el-SISI, President of Egypt for excellently steering the Union and strengthening the state of our institution during his term in 2019.
