The President of
the Pan African Parliament, Rt. Hon.
Roger Nkodo DANG has commended the peace initiatives of the South African
government in the wake of the recent unfortunate attacks which he described “Afrophobia”
since the attacks were mainly targeted at other Africans.
Rt. Hon. DANG made the commendation while addressing the
opening of the Third Ordinary Session of the Fifth Parliament of the Pan
African Parliament at the parliament’s seat in Midrand, South Africa on Monday.
He described the incident as unfortunate “coming at a time that we are trying
to integrate the African continent” and commended the quick intervention and
peace initiatives of President Cyril Ramaphosa in trying to bring the situation
under control.
DANG also commended the peace efforts of both
South Sudan and Cameroon in trying to resolve their internal conflicts and also
commended the peaceful social movement in Algeria that is culminating in the holding
of an election. He announced that the Pan African Parliament will organize a
high-level parliamentary summit to discuss these burning continental security challenges.
