The
Pan-African Parliament and the Southern African Parliamentary Support Trust have
signed a Memorandum of Understanding in a bid to support the Continental
Parliament on its mandate, which forms part of a bigger picture; working
towards the Agenda 2063.
The
agreement is meant to support the PAP Permanent Committees and Members of
Parliament to perform effective oversight, enhance the PAP’s representational
role, raise awareness to Civil Society Organizations and the African people,
increase media involvement in PAP activities and facilitate peer learning among
African Legislators.
Founded in
2007 to strengthen local and regional Parliaments, Southern African
Parliamentary Support Trust trains Parliamentary Committees and Secretariats in
legislative, policy, budget analysis and reporting.
In a related development, the Ambassador of the State of
Palestine, H.E Hashem DAJANI has paid a courtesy call on Hon. Roger Nkodo DANG,
President of PAP ahead of the Permanent Committee Sittings of March, 2019. The
Ambassador and his delegation briefed the President of the Pan-African
Parliament on the latest political developments in Palestine. Palestine was
granted observer status by the PAP in May 2017.
