The First
Ordinary Session of the Fifth Parliament of the Pan-African Parliament (PAP)
kicked off officially on Monday October 22, /2018 at the Kigali
Convention Centre in Rwanda, where legislators from across the continent
convened to dissect matters pertaining to the continent's progress.
According to a
statement by PAP’s Communications
Officer, Mr. Jeffrey Onganga, the session is taking
place under the theme: “Winning the Fight against Corruption: A Sustainable
Path to Africa’s Transformation”. The keynote address was delivered by
Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame, who doubles as the Chairperson of the African
Union.
The opening
session witnessed the swearing in of 16 new members from countries that included
Chad, Comoros, Liberia, Rwanda, Sierra Leone and Zimbabwe. Notable amongst
those sworn in is Senator Fortune Charumbira, a returning PAP parliamentarian
from Zimbabwe who contested for the office of President of the Pan African
Parliament on May 10, 2018
I'm happy with the progress and the commitment of our African leaders in supporting our PAP legislators in fighting against corruption, it's evil and one of the instruments if not eliminated, then it may take us back to our colonial era.
