Nigerians on social media have condemned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, for declaring that the Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose would be arrested
The anti-graft commission had tweeted the threat a few hours after
the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Saturday’s
governorship election in Ekiti state, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, was declared the winner.
EFCC wrote at 12:37pm: “The parri is over; The cloak of immunity torn
apart, and the staff broken. #Ekiti Integrated Poultry
Project/Biological Concepts Limited N1.3bn fraud case file dusted of the
shelves. See you soon”.
But the tweet has however, been deleted.
Here are some of the reactions on Twitter:.
@godswillefe75: Is Sylva also on immunity? You returned all the
seized 26 properties back to him, including tons of monies found in his
Abuja residence, withdrew the case of corruption from court all because
he sponsored Buhari campaign.
@oawonuga: you guys need to answer. for how you guys handled Sylva’s
case. If you know you did the right thing, pls, tell us here the
justification for letting Silva off the hook!!
@kcujam: Please delete that useless tweet. It lacks professionalism.
@Jngwobia1: Babachir David Lawal the grasscutter thief is walking
free. This is Nigeria where anybody who don’t support the president is
seen as a criminal. Power always shift, it has shift against Fayose one
day it will shift against Magu.
@ajekigbekorede: It shouldn’t av come up on a day like this, yes we
know you are doing your work but not in a time like this. It’s too
obvious stop witch hunting we are in democracy
@victormichael70: So why D declaration of D continuity of his case,
right after his party lost in his state ? What do U mean by “file dusted
off D shelf”, immunity yoke broken etc. all these utterances are
unbecomin of ur institution & very unprofessional. U can see many
people dont like this post
@VictorOsolake: But then what was the @officialEFCC doing between
2006 when @GovAyoFayose was impeached and 2014 when he was re-elected.
Obviously, he didn’t have immunity for a period of 8 years and he was
never charged to court. This is the kind of sensationalism that many
Nigerians detest.
@IykayUjah: Whoever tweeted that garbage should be relieved of his
job. It is now obvious that the agency is no longer impartial. For
crying out loud, @GovAyoFayose is still the Governor till
@kfayemi is
sworn in and as such he still enjoys immunity from arrest and
prosecution.
@bolarinsanni: Shameful institution. What did you do about the
allegations against Fayemi. Did you try him or investigate the matter
all through the period that he lacked immunity? Shame upon you all. Mere
tools in the hands of politicians. Be objective and serve the interest
of the people.
@e_brightoski: This case will capture fayemi!! I bet you will delete this post soon, but I will screenshot it!!
@magajia76: What about the part of you being unprofessional??
@fasheyitan2: U don’t need to bring this to the social media. U r
meant to do things professionally and don’t make things look like a
script is been played out here.
@orebobo: Shouldn’t that immunity clause be removed from the
constitution? Why can’t a sitting governor or president be tried or
investigated for fraud?
If it’s done after their tenure, how does that not constitute a “witch-hunt ” even when within your legal rights.
@stopcorruption1: I think that tweet is unnecessary, you are a
government organization in charge of anti-corruption & you are
suppose to be apolitical and committed to a blanket war against
corruption irrespective party, ethnicity, region or religion.
The organization is now under public scrutiny.
@alabosa50: It shall not be well with the person in charge of this
efcc Twitter account, who are you people deceiving…. Can EFCC prosecute @MBuhari as a useless chairman of PTF.
@bimbo_cash: You guys are very silly. You are being used yet not ashamed displaying to the whole world
